  • Dig it: No matter what, pinguins cannot fly. :.
    ( Friday, August 04, 2006 )

Nowadays everyone is talking about the superman movie. And the Argentina’s president, Néstor Kirchner (A.K.A. the Pinguin), wants to have his underwear from the outside. By the abuse of executive decrees, (having issued 201 since taking office in 2003)He keeps on enhancing his already extra powers.
Some of them are justified on the basis that we where facing an emergency, an argument that was broadly accepted at the outset of his term but has now worn thin.

After the victory of his allies at the October 2005 congressional elections, Mr Kirchner has strengthened his authority by concentrating decision-making in his inner circle (surely all members of a secret Society located in the Calafate) and with the sistematic replacement of every independent-minded person in the goverment.
In February the Pinguin, secured a major legislative victory when Congress passed a bill to overhaul the body responsible for the appointment and dismissal of judges, reducing the number of council members from 20 to 13, (please save the occult jokes for later) with the number of independent members (consisting of lawyers, judges and academics) falling from 11 to 6. This gave the executive branch the “veto power” over judicial decisions and of course make a portion of the population very happy. The portion that involves thiefs, assasins and violators.
This week he gain the superpower to make changes to our annual budget of around US$4.5 billons. This would give him power to control the nation’s purse strings unhindered by the legislature. While government officials call this “flexibility” that is needed to address changing circumstances its an evident sign of our presidents authoritarian tendencies.

Of course, we deserve this, for be the only country stupid enough to give superpowers to a guy with a villian name.
